WHY OUR PILATES STUDIO?
Our science-based Pilates studiointegrates principles from anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and kinesiology into Pilates exercises, emphasizing a deeper understanding of how the body moves and functions. The goal is to create a more effective, injury-preventive, and customized approach to Pilates that is rooted in scientific knowledge. Anatomy-Focused Approach: We have a strong understanding of the body's muscles, joints, and skeletal structures. We adjust exercises based on an individual's unique body mechanics and limitations to ensure optimal alignment and muscle engagements// We tailor sessions to the client's body type, fitness level, and health goals. We offer specific exercises that target particular muscles or address issues like posture or imbalances, drawing from scientific research on how the body moves. The focus is on preventing injury by using scientifically backed methods that protect joints and muscles. Exercises might be modified for clients recovering from injuries, and there is greater attention to ensuring that movements are done with the correct form to avoid strain. Our Instructors rely on principles of biomechanics to teach proper movement patterns and ensure efficient force distribution throughout the body. This reduces unnecessary tension and risk of injury, while also optimizing performance. We stay up-to-date with the latest research in movement science and incorporate findings into practices. While traditional Pilates focuses on flexibility, strength, and core stability, The House Pilates also emphasizes the nervous system, connective tissues, and overall body functionality. Pilates exercises affect not just the muscles but the entire body, including how we move, breathe, and balance. We use a more customized, evidence-based approach informed by an in-depth understanding of the body’s mechanics and anatomy. It can lead to more personalized and therapeutic workouts that are tailored to the individual’s specific needs, goals, and health conditions.

MAT PILATES
This is a series of exercises performed on the floor using gravity and your own body weight to provide resistance. The main aim is to condition the deeper, supporting muscles of your body to improve posture, balance and coordination.

EQUIPMENT PILATES
This includes specific equipment that works against spring-loaded resistance, including the ‘reformer’, which is a moveable carriage that you push and pull along its tracks. We have a Basi Cadillac that enahnces flexibility with strength training. Some forms of Pilates include weights (such as dumbbells) and other types of small equipment that offer resistance to the muscles.
In his book RETURN TO LIFE THROUGH CONTROLOGY, Joseph Pilates defined his work as a way to completely and thoroughly unify the body, mind and spirit. His principles, which we now call the principles of Pilates, are the foundation for his approach to physical fitness.
THE PRINCIPLES OF PILATES
-
CONCENTRATION
Concentration promotes the mind-body connection. As you focus and become mindful of each body movement, Pilates states you will receive optimum physical value from each movement as well as enhance your body awareness.
-
CENTERING
During your Pilates workout, you should consciously bring your focus to the center of your body. As you focus within, this Pilates principle suggests you will bring calm to both your body and spirit. Pilates called the center of your torso the “powerhouse,” from which all energy for exercise is derived.
-
CONTROL
The Pilates method is based on mindfulness, including proper, safe and complete muscle control. With proper control, you utilize the exact and correct form, leaving no part of your body unattended. In your mindful awareness, you direct each and every movement.
-
PRECISION
According to the Pilates precision principle, executing one exercise with deliberate exactitude is more important than completing more repetitions with sloppier form. For this reason, good Pilates instructors provide detailed instructions to their students on all movements.
-
BREATHING
Deep, controlled, diaphragmatic breathing activates blood circulation and awakens cells and muscles. Pilates recommended visualizing the lungs as bellows as you bring air in to the fullest and release it in the same manner. He wrote that breathing is the most integral part of exercise, and even if one follows no other recommendation, learning to breathe correctly is the most important thing.
-
FLOW
Pilates routines are completed through a gentle flow. Grace, ease and fluidity are the intention Joseph Pilates applied to all exercise. Continuous, smooth and elegant movement as you transition from one pose to another will bring strength and stamina according to this principle.

-
UNDERSTANDING PILATES
Pilates is a whole different beast than many of your usual workouts. It may be different and will work different muscles than you have ever used before. Confused after your first session? Don’t give up! Pilates may take at least three tries before you start to understand what your aiming to accomplish and before you understand just how deep of work you are doing!
-
TO SWEAT OR NOT TO SWEAT
Pilates is not an overly cardio workout, especially in the beginning of your practice. The sweat and heat that Pilates stimulates comes from your deep muscles and is very different than superficial workout sweating that you will be accustomed to. Do not fret if you don’t sweat! When it comes to Pilates this does not mean that you did not work correctly. You are still creating beautiful lean muscles and the sweat will come the more into your practice you venture.
-
THE SORE FACTOR
This is totally individualized to the client. Yes, you may be sore because you are using muscles you have never used before. However, not every novice is able to target those muscles on the first session, so it may take until the 2nd or 3rd session to learn how to engage those deep core muscles and subsequently “feel the burn”.
