WHAT IS PILATES?

Pilates is a system of exercises using special apparatus designed to improve physical strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, coordination, balance, good posture, and enhance mental awareness.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DO PILATES?

Consistency is key. Two to three times a week is an ideal amount. However, even if once a week is your limit you will still get benefits.

HOW SOON CAN I EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS?

Joseph Pilates said, "In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you'll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you'll have a whole new body". Exact results may vary by individuals and as we said consistency is key.

I'M AN ATHLETE. WILL PILATES HELP MY PERFORMANCE?

While Pilates has come to be heavily associated with the dance community, The House Pilates strives to reintroduce the exercise to all athletes and body types. Since Pilates helps to create and develop one's core strength and support it can be beneficial and tailored for numerous athletic backgrounds and beneficial to all. Joseph Pilates first came to America to teach and train boxers after all, so from dancers to boxers to tennis players, Pilates is beneficial across all fields!

I'M PREGNANT. IS PILATES GOOD FOR ME?

Always consult with your doctor when doing physical activity during your pregnancy. If you have been doing Pilates before your pregnancy, it can be great to keep your practice going but we recommend doing private sessions so proper modifications can be made for your changing body.

I'M NEW TO PILATES. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO START?

We recommend taking private sessions first. To execute Pilates exercises correctly, and with precision, there is a lot of information to remember. One-on-one private sessions are necessary to impart enough of this information so you can get a good foundation in how the exercises should be performed. Additionally, every body is different so private sessions can facilitate the knowledge of any modifications that you might need due to injuries or ailments. Having this solid foundation will provide greater benefits should you choose to do group classes later for not only you but for others in class.

I’VE SIGNED UP FOR AN ONLINE ONE-ON-ONE SESSION, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO BE READY?

Make sure the room you are in has good lighting, front lit is best. Try to wear clothing that contrasts with the color of your mat, so I can see you best. Gather any small equipment you have laying around your house (balls, bands, rollers, etc.) Make sure your computer is set up, so I can see your full body, an angle from slightly above would be ideal. Use a computer with microphone and camera if possible and plan to keep it plugged into the wall charger during our session or have a charger nearby. Also, be sure to switch your screen saver to time out after one hour or turn it off completely, so it doesn't interrupt your session.
